What's The Bottom Line With Transcendence?

Starring Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean) , Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3), Morgan Freeman (Shawshank Redemption) and Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins)

First Impressions Before Seeing The Film
Okay, I personally felt this film was going to be exactly the same as a film called Terminal Error (2002) This film is basically about a computer software virus with an A.I intelligence that destroys the world because of having higher intelligence believes it should only survive. Then, I thought looking at trailers it could be more like The Lawnmower Man (1992) where IMDB says "A simple man is turned into a genius through the application of computer science" .... so basically he is a higher being of humanity through a computer software or accident. So, even before watching this film I have my answers of what's going to happen and who might be the hero. 

After I Watched Transcendence?
My belief when watching films, television or even reading a book I keep an open mind. So, considering the actors we have Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman I was very very excited to watch this film. And, my first impressions are COMPLETELY wrong. Johnny Depp plays Will Caster who has a believe and to far as my knowledge is actually possible of something called 'Transcendence' and he is incredibly intelligent (it's Johnny Depp he is already!). Then, we have Rebecca Hall who plays his wife my immediate impression is "Oh she will be the loving wife who's a Stepford". Wrong again! She is also very intelligent so Hollywood finally is bringing wives into the 21st century and leaving Stepford Wives at the door, I am not saying Stepford Wives aren't intelligent but portraying them as a  dumb bimbo who slaves away is wrong in the film industry. I won't mention Morgan Freeman's character or Cillian Murphy because it's more in my opinion these two characters. So, whilst watching this film I discovered that I was getting interested in the film slowly and then at the end I was on the edge of my seat to see what's happening next. Going to be honest thou, when the movie finished I took a lie back in my chair and went 'wow' silently because the ending itself alone is beautiful and breath-taking to see as a film goer like myself. 


Did the visual effects need to be there?
Someone asked me this, and I was just like....ermmm yes they do. Starters, I am not saying actors need more then a stage to perform. However, we aren't in the 1980s any more. We have technology to make films truly remember-able. We have Lord of the Rings (2001), Avatar (2009), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), Transformers (2007) etc. we are making films more believable and breath taking to watch. The visuals in this film, is remarkable. It's not just "ooo look at a robot dog barking at me" (there isn't one) there's no comedy technology element in this film. It's more realistic, they talk about Nano-technology about rebuilding skin this is actually possible in the future but we have seen them in TV shows like Red Dwarf and films like I' Robot. So, the visuals don't make this film but it makes it from a 5 rating film to a 7 rating film in my opinion. 

 So, WHAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE. 
If you like your sci-fi drama films and you like little twists at the end and a LITTLE romance then watch this film. If you're like me watching anything and everything I would watch this film. The acting is brilliant, the script is beautifully written and there are some...OMG! moments in the film. I am annoyed that IMDB ranked it a 6.4 I would say bang on a 7. Remember, this is 2014 we have the visual effects which by the way are amazing, the actors are top notch, the story itself is interesting if you like the whole WHAT IF scenarios. So, WHAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE? It's amazing, not must watch but add to the list immediately. Plus, if you like Johnny Depp seeing him in this film will not bring a new light to his acting but more a different angle of where Johnny Depp might take us in the next few years. I have to admit he did lack something in the computer and the real world, am unsure what that thing is... but it's interesting to have that idea in your mind when you watch this film. 

TIPS IF WATCHING THE FILM?
Watch EVERYTHING, every second, every minute to the end there's relevance and importance in the whole film which makes you think 'Oh My God'

Honestly, said before a 7/8. The acting is sold, the story brilliant am waffling now because it is a great film to watch this 2014!
